The town of Wartburg, in the KwaZulu Natal (KZN) Midlands in South Africa, is named after the castle in Eisenach where the German reformer Martin Luther translated the Bible into German. German families settled in the area in the 1850s. The area is predominantly an agricultural region, with the predominant crops being mealies (maize), sugar cane, timber and kiwi fruit although there is an increasing arts and crafts community. Many of the inhabitants of Wartburg are now fourth generation Germans, many of whom still speak German. The two schools in Wartburg are the Wartburg Kirchdorf School and the Georgenau School.
Wartburg is situated approximately 40 kilometers to the north-east of Pietermaritzburg, KZN. A popular attraction within Wartburg is the Orion Hotel. Attractions near Wartburg include the Midlands Meander and Albert Falls Dam.
